Shorelight Education Launches International Student Programs in Mexico City.
Shorelight Education representatives met with Emb. Socorro Rovirosa, Director General SEP, along with Rodolfo Franco Franco, Chief of Department of Cooperation with America, to discuss the administration’s signature initiative, Proyecta 100,000, which aims to boost the number of students it sends to the US each year to 100,000 by 2018 by increasing student mobility and fostering increased collaboration within higher education. Currently 13,893 students are studying in the US.
Shorelight will support this initiative through its university partners – University of Central Florida, Bath Spa University, and University of Kansas – where programs targeted at international student success are co-developed and operated as entry points for students from across the world. These programs provide access to university degrees starting with a 12-month intensive accelerator program that combines acculturation and academic courses to ensure student success.

“With the administration’s focus on increasing student mobility, we had a very productive conversation and exchange of ideas on how our aligned goals can lead to promising outcomes in near and longer terms,” stated Imran Oomer, CEO of Bath Spa Global.
Shorelight’s trade mission to Mexico was part of a much broader Latin American campaign to bring about bi-lateral relationships to foster international study in the United States and the UK. In addition to the meeting at the ministry, the Shorelight team met with EducationUSA, high school councilors, prospective students, and parents. The team was met with enthusiasm and the various exchanges highlighted the ambitions, aspirations, and global perspectives that these students will bring to their future universities.
“Feedback from the counselors and families we met with was very positive, and exhibited the broad range of interests their students bring, and their desire to not just study abroad, but to come out of their university as global scholars,” Oomer stated.

Shorelight’s CEO, Tom Dretler, shares his vision:
“This is a watershed moment for the industry. If current trends continue, we see a higher education system that in 20 years can no longer afford to meet the diverse needs of the U.S. student population. The social and economic implications are pretty staggering. The time for change is now.”
