Job Overview

The English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructor combines English Language instruction and support with academic instruction and acculturation to teach international students.  ESL Instructors teach listening, speaking, reading, writing, and grammar skills at all levels in a university-based, intensive ESL program.  He/She/They also teach ESP courses, participate in extracurricular events, and assume responsibilities in materials development/coordination or other needed specialized areas.  This role reports to the English Program Supervisor.

 

The ESL Instructor has proven customer service abilities, has outstanding oral and written communication skills, and demonstrated flexibility.  He/She/They will work with students one on one and in groups so excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and outstanding interpersonal skills with cultural sensitivity toward students and staff from diverse backgrounds is critical.  The ESL Instructor is a team player who can work independently, is comfortable multitasking, can change priorities to fit business needs, and manages time efficiently.

 

Essential Functions

Teaching

·        Prepare lessons, teach, and grade 40 hours per week of English for Academic Purposes to international students enrolled in Adelphi International

·        Work in a team environment with other instructors and the Adelphi International team to prepare, select, and use appropriate teaching and learning materials for international students (including the use of textbooks, in-house materials, and self-created materials)

·        Develop relevant and appropriate lesson plans that provide effective teaching strategies and meet the individual needs of students

·        Assess students and provide both formative and summative evaluations to a high standard

·        Provide oral and written feedback to students and to relevant staff

·        Deliver out-of-class academic support for students during office hours as needed

 

Administrative Support

·        Carry out administrative tasks associated with teaching and assessment, students’ academic progress reports, weekly grades, attendance, and record of work

·        Act as a positive ambassador for Adelphi International and Adelphi University

·        Participate in staff development and professional training as required

·        Attend university and program meetings as required

 

Security

·        Comply with Shorelight Written Information Security Policy, and all other Shorelight Information Security Policies and Procedures

·        Take responsibility for any Shorelight assets assigned to you

Minimum Qualifications

·        Master’s degree in TESOL or closely related field, such as (but not limited to) Applied Linguistics or Adult Education

·        2+ years of related experience, including 1+ year in an academic ESL program

·        Eligibility to work in and travel freely to and from the United States without sponsorship

 

Preferred Qualifications

·        Demonstrable knowledge of applied linguistics, second language acquisition, language-teaching methodologies, assessment, and curriculum/lesson planning; TEFL certifications (CELTA, DELTA, Bridge, or Oxford)

Events and Special Projects Coordinator – Adelphi International

Job Overview

The Events and Special Projects Coordinator (ESPC) leads Adelphi International’s efforts in planning orientation, familiarization tours, short-term exchanges, and large-scale campus cultural programs for international students enrolled in the International Accelerator Program.  This role is to ensure the delivery of a high-quality programs and experiences for all students.  Reporting to the Managing Director, the ESPC coordinates the operational and logistic components of events, including room reservations, catering, transportation, and program supply orders.  He/She/They develop and maintain relationships with university personnel as well as community and student leaders. 

The ESPC is an energetic and skilled team player who demonstrates a diligent work ethic and strong commitment to the details of event planning with a focus on meeting the needs of international students. He/She/They possess exemplary customer service skills and a flexible, hands-on approach to problem solving.  The ability to manage time efficiently and maintain a high level of organization is critical.  

Essential Functions

Operations Support

  • Assist the admissions team with the documentation and admissions process into the Adelphi International Program
  • Manage the admissions pipeline and aid in the addition of ancillaries and creation os statement of fees
  • Partner with the regional recruitment and sales teams to train all recruitment staff in communicating the value proposition of the Adelphi International Program and ensure an excellent student experience
  • Monitor enrollment trends and report on all phases of the recruitment process to the Managing Director and Global Director of Sales
  • Host direct student visitors wanting to see our programs providing them the experience that Manhattan offers compared to other programs

Finance and Accounting Administrative Support

  • Serve as the campus point of contact for students and others on billing and payment issues
  • Process student payments into SalesForce, confirming enrollment data for each term and identifying accounts on hold
  • Initiate refunds, credit memos, and adjustments
  • Collaborate with Finance on all student-facing initiatives, such as collecting payments and updating monthly A/R aging file
  • Prepare and submit sponsor billing
  • Generate statement of fees for students on campus as requested
  • Set up vendor accounts and invoicing
  • Participate in annual PriceBook update and assist with yearly financial audit

Events & Special Projects Coordination 

  • Work closely with Student Services Director and Student Services Team to facilitate planning and execution of the orientations per year
  • Create accurate records for recap of Orientation to improve the process for future intakes
  • Continue relations with university departments to strategize efficient processes during Orientation, including immigration processing, catering, reserving rooms, etc.
  • Manage and delegate, in conjunction with the Student Services Director and Assistant Managing Director, the assignments for executing Orientation including but not limited to transportation, meals, venue and classroom booking, permits, university department presentations, airport customer service relations, cultural adjustment programming, and rules, regulations and policy discussions
  • Work closely with Student Services to schedule housing, linen packs, and supply needs before orientation
  • Coordinate efforts to support the community through student/staff volunteering and donations
  • Plan large programming events, in conjunction with Student Services staff and others, including co-sponsoring campus-wide cultural events, social and cultural programs, residence hall programs for domestic and international students, etc. at both AUI’s Garden City and Manhattan locations, and the Oakdale partnership with Amity University
  • Plan and execute any additional projects that will impact the overall experience of an AUI student or contribute to the success of AUI as determined by the Assistant Managing Director or Managing Director of Adelphi International
  • Plan and organize the Amity 3C annual short-term exchange program

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, primarily Excel
  • Experience working successfully with non-native English speakers
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment that requires cross-cultural awareness and understanding
  • Demonstrated hands-on approach to customer service and business growth
  • Eligibility to work and travel in the United States without sponsorship

The Student Services Director (SSD) develops and leads all aspects of student services for international students enrolled in Adelphi International programsThe main responsibility of this role is to design and implement a strategic plan to support Adelphi International students’ academic engagement, social integration, and cross-cultural development in their new academic and social environment.

 

The SSD is a skilled team player who successfully develops support services catered to international students. The SSD is an experienced and flexible leader with an innovative approach to analysis, data-driven decision making, and complex problem solving.  The SSD leverages data and analysis to drive a strategic, high-impact student services organization in alignment with Adelphi International objectives. The SSD also possesses heightened interpersonal and customer service skills and leverages these skills to develop strategic relationships and work closely with university leaders and a range of administrators, partners, students, and parents. The SSD has a passion to deliver a high level of service to the students, and understand the holistic overlay of the academic, social, cultural, and emotional needs in the student lifecycle.  Creative-thinking abilities with a heightened sense of accountability and ownership of all things related to students is critical. The SSD reports to the Managing Director.

Essential Functions

Student Service

  • In partnership with Managing Director, Academic Director and Shorelight leadership, develop programs that guide, prepare, and motivate students toward degree completion
  • Manage all Adelphi International student services, including student housing and dining, pre-arrival communication, arrival support services such as airport transfers, orientation programming, ongoing student services support, events calendar, coordination with university cultural associations, coordination of a student ambassador program and peer advising infrastructure, progression, matriculation, and the overall student experience
  • Maximize student retention and progression through active student participation in the program’s events, holistic advising, and tutoring as well as encouraging engagement in university events and clubs/organizations to foster a sense of belonging
  • Support Managing Director in the rollout of new program initiatives

People Management

  • Recruit, develop, and retain team members to ensure productivity and engagement
  • Engage in talent management activities such as goal setting, performance evaluations, stay interviews, development planning, and ongoing feedback to develop team members and achieve organization goals
  • Provide coaching, counseling, and corrective action (when necessary) to team members
  • Foster a culture that reflects Shorelight’s values

Relationship Management

  • Liaise with and create mutually beneficial, scalable relationships with key contacts at the university, including the Managing Director, Academic Director, International Student Services, Campus Housing, Dining Services, Student Development & Enrollment Services, Office of Student Involvement, Office of the Registrar, and various other departments
  • Foster external relations and partnerships that continually enhance the reputation and success of Adelphi International
  • Liaise with partnership Academic staff regularly to ensure effective and efficient processes to support student success such as tutoring structures, advising structures, students of concern communication and protocols etc.

Data and Technology

  • Ensure that systems and procedures are established and followed to maintain accurate records and reporting on all aspects of the program
  • Leverage data and analysis to continually assess student success and satisfaction in order to create the best possible experience for students

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2-5 years’ experience in higher education or hospitality
  • 2+ years’ experience working with students or customers in an administrative or academic capacity

English Program Supervisor

Job Overview

The English Program Supervisor (EPS) manages a team of ESL instructors and oversees curriculum and delivery of the Intensive English Program (IEP) within Adelphi International’s pre-sessional and pathway programs. The EPS ensures the IEP curriculum meets accreditation standards, oversees effective delivery of the curriculum, and supports professional development of the ESL teaching team. 

This role requires an energetic team player who has clear and effective oral and written communication, exceptional attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.   Excellent presentation skills along with the ability to negotiate with students and colleagues are highly important. Demonstrated problem-solving, decision-making, and creative-thinking abilities are essential.  This role reports to the Academic Director.  

Essential Functions

Program Coordination

  • Coordinate and manage IEP components including ESL course curriculum, course assessments, and Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
  • Oversee and assist with day-to-day academic operations of support courses
  • Function as the content owner and subject-matter expert for ESL products within the program
  • Lead course revisions and changes within the library of support courses
  • Function as the owner of local quality assurance measures within each IEP course/product in local program portfolio
  • Support or lead team efforts to obtain or maintain program accreditation as required
  • Function as the first point of contact on academic concerns related to administration of ESL courses and maintenance of Intensive English Program standards

Teaching

  • Teach a maximum of 10 hours per semester of IEP courses as needed
  • Develop relevant and appropriate lesson plans with clear objectives that align with specified student learning outcomes
  • Utilize effective teaching strategies that meet the individual needs of students
  • Adhere to university policies regarding academic integrity and related university academic policies
  • Assess students and provide both formative and summative evaluations that measure student performance in attaining specified student learning outcomes
  • Provide oral and written feedback to students in a timely manner
  • Provide out-of-class academic support for students
  • Substitute-teach for other colleagues as needed

Administrative

  • Maintain data on ESL course outcomes to monitor effectiveness of IEP curriculum and delivery
  • Develop instructor teaching and tutoring schedules

  • Demonstrated knowledge of various ESL and English for Academic Purposes (EAP) pedagogies and methodologies
  • Experience coordinating international student programs and subprograms for development groups
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment with cross-cultural competence and understanding
  • Facility with class management tools, including databases, Microsoft Office programs, learning management systems, and forms of media to support an interactive and student-centered classroom instruction
  • Proven ability to clearly deliver lessons using communicative-based instruction, as evidenced by formal observation records and/or student evaluations

Job Overview

Adelphi International seeks year-round English as a Second Language (ESL) Teachers to teach international students in the International Accelerator Program and/or the Intensive English Program (IEP). These programs combine English Language instruction, academic language development, and acculturation. Reporting to the Assistant Academic Director, ESL Teachers are responsible for holistically teaching listening, speaking, reading, writing, and grammar skills at all levels in a university-based, intensive ESL program, teaching English for Academic Purposes courses, participating in extracurricular events, and assuming responsibilities in materials development/coordination, or other needed specialized areas.

Essential Functions

The full-time instructional position is an exempt position calculated on a 40-hour work week, during which the following duties will be executed:

  • Teach rigorous and holistic ESL course to international students at the Adelphi University Garden City campus
  • Work in a team environment with Adelphi International colleagues to prepare, select, and use appropriate teaching and learning materials for international students (including the use of textbooks, in-house materials, and self-created materials)
  • Develop relevant and appropriate lesson plans that incorporate effective teaching strategies and meet the individual needs of students
  • Assess students using high-quality formative and summative evaluations
  • Provide oral and written feedback to students
  • Provide out-of-class academic support for students
  • Carry out administrative tasks associated with teaching and assessment, including, but not limited to: generating students’ academic progress reports, submitting weekly grades, tracking attendance, and attending meetings with or about students
  • Provide teaching coverage in the absence of other colleagues
  • Participate in relevant social events and activities (e.g. accompanying trips)
  • Participate in and contribute to orientation sessions
  • Act as a positive ambassador for Adelphi International and Adelphi University
  • Participate in staff development and professional training as required
  • Attend university and program meetings as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in TESOL or closely related field, such as (but not limited to) Applied Linguistics or Adult Education required
  • Demonstrable knowledge of applied linguistics, second language acquisition, language-teaching methodologies, assessment, and curriculum/lesson planning
  • Two years of related experience, including one year in an academic ESL program
  • Overseas experience or experience teaching in multicultural/multilingual classrooms desired
  • Excellent English ability, exceptional communication skills, and a dynamic, charismatic personality
  • Competence in a foreign language preferred
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship

Job Overview

The Campus Marketing Coordinator grows the brand of the partnership and its programs. This includes marketing the full suite of program offerings, both graduate and undergraduate, and increasing brand awareness across the campus and global community. The Campus Marketing Coordinator reports to the Managing Director with a dotted line to HQ marketing, and works closely with University marketing and enrollment, recruitment, and communications teams as well as external vendors to align brand, strategy, and campaigns.

Working under the direction of campus leadership, the Campus Marketing Coordinator plays a central role in the strategy and execution for marketing the programs on campus and around the world, including content development, video creation, email and social media campaigns, student testimonials, presentations, and communications.    With a strong focus on the student, the Campus Marketing Coordinator works with partnership staff to highlight the student experience and service differentiators of the program to help drive enrollment.

The Campus Marketing Coordinator possesses strong marketing and project management skills and the ability to work with cross-functional teams in a highly matrixed environment. The Campus Marketing Coordinator possesses a strong understanding of both the university’s brand and value proposition as well as the markets for which the program drives student growth. He or she maintains expertise in the products at the partnership, insight into where the market is going, and ideally knowledge of international student dynamics. This individual is an integral part of the Shorelight team and demonstrates a positive, can-do attitude; strong attention to detail; exceptional communication skills; and a love of storytelling across media platforms.

Essential Functions

Program Promotion

  • Work with the global Shorelight marketing team and campus leadership to execute the annual marketing plan
  • Act as the primary point of contact and as a liaison to internal university departments, as required
  • Manage and create content for social media accounts, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and the program blog
  • Document the students’ experiences and tell student stories through photos, videos, blogs, student testimonials (video and print) and social media
  • Create effective messaging for local, regional, and global marketing campaigns to use across departments and by international recruitment partners
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and manage visitor agendas (prospective students, campus open days, Shorelight staff, agents, FAM trips, ); plan and execute visits
  • Support key market events internationally as requested
  • Partner with global recruitment to ensure all training materials are updated and accurate as well as communicate updates through recruitment weekly newsletters
  • Work with admissions and recruitment teams to develop strategies to convert qualified leads into applicants and enrolled students
  • Partner with the centralized marketing communications team to create compelling content and marketing collateral to deliver global marketing campaigns and support multiple recruitment channels, including Global Channel Recruitment, Direct to Consumer, and Partnerships

 Technology

  • Work with the marketing communications team to create email content and landing pages for nurturing prospective students, student recruitment, and other targeted campaigns in the Marketo marketing automation tool and WordPress CMS

Collateral Creation and Management

  • Support on-campus marketing needs, including orientation collateral, event promotion, and student newsletters
  • Ensure that existing material, forms, websites, etc. are accurate and updated on a regular sequence
  • Ensure all marketing collateral adheres to brand guidelines and proper approvals are received
  • Assist the student services teams in the design and implementation of incoming and ongoing orientation programs

 
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, media, journalism, or related field
  • Fluency in social media and knowledge of the digital landscape
  • Demonstrated self-starter driven toward results
  • Demonstrated leadership, customer service, presentation, and public speaking skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to take initiative, perform multiple assignments, and complete projects in a timely manner
  • Ability to initiate, lead, and implement marketing strategies
  • Strong team player who is comfortable collaborating within cross-functional and global teams
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • Previous experience with Peoplesoft software
  • Project management experience
  • 1+ years of experience in marketing
  • Multimedia production experience and strong writing skills
  • Experience in the use of, or knowledge of, technology to support marketing strategies
  • Effective working knowledge of university’s and/or pathway programs
  • Skills in design, copywriting, public speaking, proofing, scheduling, organizing, trafficking, and consolidating feedback
  • Experience with com, Marketo, or similar CRM; experience with WordPress/web content management systems
