Job Overview

The English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructor combines English Language instruction and support with academic instruction and acculturation to teach international students.  ESL Instructors teach listening, speaking, reading, writing, and grammar skills at all levels in a university-based, intensive ESL program.  He/She/They also teach ESP courses, participate in extracurricular events, and assume responsibilities in materials development/coordination or other needed specialized areas.  This role reports to the English Program Supervisor.

 

The ESL Instructor has proven customer service abilities, has outstanding oral and written communication skills, and demonstrated flexibility.  He/She/They will work with students one on one and in groups so excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and outstanding interpersonal skills with cultural sensitivity toward students and staff from diverse backgrounds is critical.  The ESL Instructor is a team player who can work independently, is comfortable multitasking, can change priorities to fit business needs, and manages time efficiently.

 

Essential Functions

Teaching

·        Prepare lessons, teach, and grade up to 30 hours per week of English for Academic Purposes to international students enrolled in UOP International

·        Work in a team environment with other instructors and the UOP International team to prepare, select, and use appropriate teaching and learning materials for international students (including the use of textbooks, in-house materials, and self-created materials)

·        Develop relevant and appropriate lesson plans that provide effective teaching strategies and meet the individual needs of students

·        Assess students and provide both formative and summative evaluations to a high standard

·        Provide oral and written feedback to students and to relevant staff

·        Deliver out-of-class academic support for students during office hours as needed

 

Administrative Support

·        Carry out administrative tasks associated with teaching and assessment, students’ academic progress reports, weekly grades, attendance, and record of work

·        Act as a positive ambassador for UOP International and University of the Pacific

·        Participate in staff development and professional training as required

·        Attend university and program meetings as required

 

 

Security

·        Comply with Shorelight Written Information Security Policy, and all other Shorelight Information Security Policies and Procedures

·        Take responsibility for any Shorelight assets assigned to you

Minimum Qualifications

·        Master’s degree in TESOL or closely related field, such as (but not limited to) Applied Linguistics or Adult Education

·        2+ years of related experience, including 1+ year in an academic ESL program

·        Eligibility to work in and travel freely to and from the United States without sponsorship

 

Preferred Qualifications

·        Demonstrable knowledge of applied linguistics, second language acquisition, language-teaching methodologies, assessment, and curriculum/lesson planning; TEFL certifications (CELTA, DELTA, Bridge, or Oxford)

·        Overseas experience or experience teaching in multicultural/multilingual classrooms

·        Competence in a foreign language

Job Overview

The Academic Operations Coordinator (AOC) provides support for the UIC Global academic team. Under the direction of academic leadership, the AOC drives academic protocols and implementation of academic policies along with tracking key performance indicators for student success data.  This role supports students with curricular requirements for their intended majors as well as utilization of academic support services on campus. He/She/They supports UIC Global and University staff to provide students with a smooth transition to their degree program.  The AOC is responsible for accurate record keeping and supports academic leadership in scheduling, teaching, and relationship building with UIC Global. This position reports to the Academic [Operations] Director.

 

The Academic Operations Coordinator will work with students one on one and in small groups to share academic and curricular information so excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and outstanding interpersonal skills with cultural sensitivity toward students and staff from diverse backgrounds is critical.  He/she/they is an energetic team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has excellent customer service skills.  Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities as well as the ability to work in a diverse environment that requires cross-cultural awareness and understanding is essential.

 

Essential Functions

Academic Data Management & Integrity

·        Coordinate the collection of data and report on Academic KPI’s

·        Develop and maintain cohort and student academic history and academic performance tracking

·        Maintain student academic records and statistics, including progression statistics, grade alerts, student cases notes in the university advising system, and notes from faculty

 

Academic Services

·        Register students in courses within the student information system

·        Develop and present workshops in partnership with Student Services

·        Assist in the preparation and delivery of academic overview session at student orientation

 

Relationship Management

·        Function as academic liaison to the student services team, providing trainings, and serving as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) as required

·        Coordinate the academic support services for UIC Global students in partnership with the university

·        Work closely with the university advisors to ensure a coordinated advising and registration process as students’ progress

·        Participate in committee meetings with stakeholders across the university, including faculty and staff

 

 

Security

Minimum Qualifications

·        Bachelor’s Degree

·        1+ years working experience in higher education or as administrative staff in a registrar’s office, academic, or related department 

·        High level of proficiency in MS Excel and MS Access

Preferred Qualifications

·        Master’s Degree, preferably in a related field

·        Proficiency with industry standard software and registration programs: Banner, PeopleSoft, Astra, (or other)

·        Experience scheduling courses, classrooms, and faculty 

·        Experience with Salesforce or equivalent CRM at the data entry and administrative level

·        Experience working successfully with non-native English speakers

Job Overview

The Instructional Design Coordinator (IDC) supports the instructional design and build of electronic curricula delivered over a variety of Learning Management Systems (LMSs) for dual enrollment, undergraduate, and graduate pathways programs at multiple Shorelight universities. The IDC is a TESOL content expert who works closely with the academic affairs instructional design team to develop online programming and plays a pivotal role in coordinating online course delivery for Shorelight campuses. This role supports the day-to-day instructional design and curriculum development work and instruction, ebook distribution to American Collegiate Live students, and the Center for Academic Success online tutoring services. This role reports to the Instructional Design and Curriculum Manager.

 

The IDC will build a strong rapport with academic team members on campus so strong interpersonal skills and a high level of customer service is essential.  He/She/They is an energetic team player with exceptional oral and written communication skills and strong attention to detail.  The IDC is comfortable multitasking, adjusts quickly to shifting priorities, and manages time efficiently.

 

Essential Functions

Course Delivery Support

·       Work closely with the instructional design team leadership to coordinate delivery of online courses for a range of Shorelight campuses

·       Support student success initiatives, such as bootcamps and clinics, by documenting program formats and recording programmatic decisions

·       Work with campus teams to determine course sections needed and scheduling preferences

·       Monitor campus course roster distribution and ensure timely student registration and transmission to Learning Architecture Solutions project manager

·       Coordinate with campus staff and LAS project manager to ensure online platform orientation for new students is set up prior to each term in a timely manner

·       Distribute student welcome emails for orientation to campus partners

·       Track course attendance and notify campus team members of areas of concern

·       Manage ebook acquisition and student/instructor account setup for AC Live courses

·       Collate grades from instructors and distribute to campus partners

·       Create and distribute student grade reports and certificates

 

Curriculum Development and Instructional Design

·       Collaborate with curriculum developers and adjunct Instructors to design, develop, and/or build ESL, student success, and academic skills workshops and webinars

·       Work with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to develop math and computer science courses and bootcamps

·       Design and build self-paced pre-arrival, orientation, and academic skills modules in Rise 360 for students and self-paced training modules internal use

·       Support the Instructional Design Manager on curriculum projects and assignments

 

Teaching & Learning

·       Assist the Center for Academic Success with tutoring services, training for new tutors, implementation of resources, and expanding offerings to support student success

·       Support Blackboard, Isidore (Sakai), and Shorelight’s teaching and learning platform (UCommons/Canvas) with user training acting as the point of contact for adjunct instructors, campus team members, and university faculty

·       Conduct online workshops for American Collegiate Live textbook orientation

·       Facilitate workshops as needed for company initiatives, such as U.S. Education Week

 

Security

Minimum Qualifications

·       1+ years of instructional design experience and the ability to quickly acquire new tech skills

·       Experience teaching international students online

·       Expertise working with Canvas or other university LMS

Academic Operations Coordinator

Description

The Academic Operations Coordinator (AOC) provides support for the FIU Global First Year academic team. Under the direction of academic leadership, the AOC drives academic protocols and implementation of academic policies along with tracking key performance indicators for student success data. The AOC supports students with curricular requirements for their intended majors as well as utilization of academic support services on campus. He/She/They supports FIU Global First Year and University staff to provide students with a smooth transition to their degree program. The AOC is responsible for accurate record keeping, and supports academic leadership in scheduling, teaching, and relationship building with FIU Global First Year. This position reports to the Academic Operations Director.
The Academic Operations Coordinator works with students one on one and in small groups to share academic and curricular information so excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and outstanding interpersonal skills with cultural sensitivity toward students and staff from diverse backgrounds is critical. He/she/they is an energetic team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has excellent customer service skills. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities as well as the ability to work in a diverse environment that requires cross-cultural awareness and understanding is essential.
