Job Overview

The Teaching and Learning Design Manager (TLDM) oversees the development of programs and curricula for Shorelight’s English as a Second Language (ESL), undergraduate and graduate Accelerator programs, transnational projects, and new program offerings. He or she assists in the development and implementation of academic policies and procedures across partnerships and provides consultation and support to Shorelight Intensive English Programs (IEP). High energy levels and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment is essential. Demonstrated problem-solving, decision-making, and creative-thinking abilities are equally important for this role. The TLDM reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, collaborates extensively with all HQ Academic Affairs team members, and manages relationships with senior-level university administrators.

Essential Functions

Learning and Development

  • Serve as a voting member of Academic Quality Assurance Committees at assigned campuses, managing relationships with senior-level university administrators
  • Oversee integration of English Language Learning (ELL) technologies to facilitate student learning
  • Support professional development of ESL instructors at Shorelight IEPs, facilitating monthly meetings, conducting annual visits, and providing workshops based on program needs
  • Design and facilitate professional development workshops for ESL Instructors
  • Collaborate in training of new Global Citizenship Course workshop facilitators
  • Support department’s employee engagement and professional development by contributing to program design for annual events

Curriculum Development and Implementation

  • Collaborate on the development of ESL and Global First Year curricula, identifying appropriate materials, applying second-language acquisition pedagogical and assessment techniques, and incorporating industry and partnership best practices
  • Provide instructional design support for Shorelight Live programs as needed
  • Collaborate on the curricula for Global Citizenship Course and facilitate related workshops, updating and adapting content for different audiences and settings
  • Lead academically focused working groups to develop and provide resources across partnerships and support site-specific development of essential curricula

Academic Policy and Procedures Support

  • Conduct research on related best practices and present findings in a clear, timely, and organized fashion
  • Manage teaching and learning projects using team technology, such as Wrike and Monday.com
  • Support the implementation of international student engagement best practices among campus teams
  • Collaborate with the Shorelight Academic Affairs department to design a portfolio of national academic policy documents, including Shorelight Way documents, faculty development materials, and instructional and student learning resources
  • Organize and maintain team files using Dropbox
  • Maintain cross-functional communication by contributing to Academic Affairs postings on intranet (Spark)

People Management

  • Manage team of curriculum writers, outlining expectations for deliverables and monitoring deadlines
  • Recruit, develop, and retain team members to ensure productivity and engagement
  • Engage in talent management activities such as goal setting, performance evaluations, stay interviews, development planning, and ongoing feedback to develop team members and achieve organization goals
  • Provide coaching, counseling, and corrective action (when necessary) to team members
  • Foster a culture that reflects Shorelight’s values

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in higher education administration, TESOL, applied linguistics, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience developing ESL, undergraduate, or graduate programs at a curricular and operations level
  • Working understanding of second language acquisition pedagogy
  • Experience working in higher education, private language schools, or other international education organizations
  • Experience working with international students and multilingual populations
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment and exhibit cross-cultural competence and understanding
  • Demonstrated tact, patience, sensitivity, and diplomacy, particularly with non-native English speakers
  • Eligibility to work in and travel freely to and from the United States without sponsorship
  • Willingness to travel to partnerships universities and Shorelight HQ in Boston

Preferred Qualifications

  • Record of exceptional interpersonal, communication, presentation, and negotiation skills

The Assistant Academic Director assists in managing an International Accelerator Program (IAP) for international students. This program combines English language instruction and support with academic instruction and acculturation. Reporting to and assisting the Academic Director for the UOP International Partnership, the Assistant Academic Director works closely with university administrators, academic support staff, and faculty members to ensure the quality of this specialized academic program. He or she supports and guides program students by organizing effective student resources in areas of academic English, tutorials, and progression through the program.           

The Assistant Academic Director ensures the delivery of a high-quality academic experience for all students in the IAP. This individual possesses the interpersonal skills to work closely with a range of administrators, students, and faculty. The Assistant Academic Director is a strong team player who participates in both academic and student services initiatives, providing a high level of customer service to all stakeholders.

Essential Functions

Academic Program Support

  • Assist in managing all academic program logistics, including timetabling, resource preparation, and classroom allocation
  • Oversee and assist with day-to-day academic operations of the program, providing hands-on academic and acculturation student support
  • Manage academic operations (as per guidelines of the Academic Director), including ensuring established systems and procedures are followed, and accurate records and reports on the program are maintained
  • Work closely with the Student Services Director to support student services activities
  • Work with university academic departments to ensure appropriate scheduling of courses and assignment of instructional staff
  • Assist with maintaining academic program quality and standards of the university and its accrediting bodies, and ensure continuous evaluation and improvement of the program
  • Represent the program at academic events, during familiarization tours, and through memberships and affiliations, as appropriate
  • Adhere to university policies regarding academic integrity and related university academic policies
  • AAD may be requested to teach up to 3 hours of UOPI courses per semester

Student Progression and Retention

  • Monitor student retention processes and develop/promote policies for the program, utilizing Salesforce and other data management tools
  • Analyze data and report on the progress and satisfaction of the students’ achievement of objectives, including progression through the program and degree completion at the university

Relationship Management

  • Partner with the Academic Director and the Student Services Director to liaise with key offices at the university
  • Support the Academic Director in liaising with academic committees and other partners related to the matriculation and onboarding of new students initially, through UOP International, and into university degree programs

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • 3+ years of experience in higher education, language school management, TEFL/TESOL, or related field

Job Overview

The Assistant Academic Director assists with the academic process for all Global UCF programs for international students. Our programs combine college level course work and academic English classes with cultural transition support.  The Assistant Academic Director will report to and assist Global UCF’s Academic Director and work closely with university administrators, academic support staff, and faculty members to ensure the quality of this specialized academic program. The Assistant Academic Director supports and guides Global UCF students by organizing effective student resources and processes in areas of academic English, tutorials, among others as students progress through the program.                                
Successful candidates are skilled academic managers who can ensure the delivery of a high-quality academic experience for all students in the Global UCF programs. The Assistant Academic Director must possess the interpersonal skills to work closely with a range of administrators and students. They must also be a strong team player who participates in both academic and student services initiatives. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and assist with day-to-day academic operations of the program
  • Implement and monitor student retention processes and develop/promote policies for the program
  • Manage academic operations (as per guidelines of the Academic Director), including ensuring established systems and procedures are followed, and accurate records and reports on the program are maintained
  • Support the Academic Director in liaising with academic committees and other partners related to the matriculation and onboarding of new students initially, through the Global UCF programs, and into university degree programs
  • Work with academic departments and the English Language Institute to ensure appropriate scheduling of courses and assignment of instructional staff for the Global UCF programs
  • Report on the progress and satisfaction of the students’ achievement of objectives including progression through the program and degree completion at the university
  • Adhere to university policies regarding academic integrity and related university academic policies 
  • Design, execute, and maintain the enrollment process of all Global UCF students active in their program
  • Maintain an annual calendar of scheduling activities and ensure timely completion of these activities
  • Develop, implement, and coordinate academic support services for students in the program
  • Support new student orientation programming and delivery
  • Maintain up-to-date student records including schedules, grades, attendance any other data as directed
  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or Master’s degree in progress in higher education or related field required
  • Minimum of three years of experience in higher education
  • Experience working with international students and first year college students
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment and exhibit cross-cultural competence and understanding
  • High energy level and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Outstanding customer service, oral and written communication

Job Overview

The Academic Director implements and manages an International Accelerator Program (IAP), including an Intensive English Program, curriculum and support services for international students. This individual primarily ensures the delivery of a high-quality academic experience for all students in the program. This program combines English language instruction and support with academic instruction and acculturation. Reporting to the Managing Director, the Academic Director ensures the quality of this specialized academic program, organizing effective student support and guidance in areas of English for academic purposes, tutorials, and progression through the program.

In cooperation with university academic units and university administrators, the Academic Director works collegially with students, faculty members, and administrators. The Academic Director is a strong team player who participates in both academic and student services initiatives, providing a high level of customer service to all stakeholders.

Travel to satellite/regional campuses in Sacramento and San Francisco required.

Essential Functions

Academic Program Management

  • Manage academic operations, including implementing and overseeing systems and procedures; maintaining accurate records and reports on the program; and meeting academic program quality standards, ensuring continuous evaluation and improvement of the program
  • Work closely with the Managing Director, Academic Chair, and Shorelight to supervise and manage all academics of the program, including curriculum delivery, mentoring of faculty and staff, and overall student experience
  • Collaborate with academic units to develop a program that meets the university’s objectives; further strengthens the university’s mission, international reach, and outstanding reputation; and maximizes student success and progression
  • Partner with the Academic Chair, Student Services Director, and university personnel to ensure a holistic program encompassing academic success, integration into the university environment, acculturation, student service support, and student success
  • Oversee academic program planning
  • Represent the program through participation in academic events, on familiarization tours, and through memberships and affiliations as appropriate
  • Adhere to university policies regarding academic integrity and related university academic policies

 Student Progression and Retention

  • In partnership with the Academic Chair and UOPI leadership team, implement and monitor student retention processes and policies for the program
  • Analyze reports on the progress and satisfaction of the students’ achievement of objectives, including progression through the program and degree completion

 Relationship Management

  • Liaise with appropriate committees and other partners related to the matriculation and onboarding of new students initially, through the IAP, and into university degree programs
  • Co-chair the Academic Quality Assurance Committee (AQAC)
  • Work with academic departments to ensure appropriate scheduling of courses and assignment of instructional staff for the program

 People Management

  • Recruit, develop, and retain team members to ensure productivity and engagement
  • Engage in talent management activities such as goal setting, performance evaluations, stay interviews, development planning, and ongoing feedback to develop team members and achieve organization goals
  • Provide coaching, counseling, and corrective action (when necessary) to team members
  • Foster a culture that reflects Shorelight’s values

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with 5+ years’ experience in either higher education, IEP/ language school management, TEFL/TESOL, or related field or a Doctorate degree with either 3+ years’ experience in higher education, IEP/language school management, or related field.
  • 3+ years of teaching experience at the university level
  • Experience working with international students in a higher education setting
  • Record of exceptional interpersonal, communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated tact, patience, and diplomacy, particularly with non-native English speakers
  • Hands-on approach to academic delivery, student service, and business growth
  • Demonstrated understanding of class management tools, including databases, Microsoft Office programs, course management systems, and forms of media to support an interactive and student-centered classroom instruction
  • Eligibility to work and travel in the United States without sponsorship

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working within an educational collaboration and/or a complex organization
