Job Overview

The Financial Planning Analyst acts as a strategic advisor to Shorelight’s leadership team, university partners, and global recruitment network by providing financial input to execute our business strategy. This role participates and influences all aspects of the business, making it a unique opportunity for the right person. The Financial Planning Analyst is part of the corporate finance team, which manages business planning and evaluates investment opportunities.

Essential Functions

  • Monitor financial performance and highlight trends across key performance indicator
  • Partner with accounting team to execute the monthly close and provide business reporting to department and university leaders
  • Provide analytical support to department and university leaders for ongoing initiatives and ad hoc requests
  • Work closely with department and university leaders to validate that the return on investments (ROI) of initiatives align with strategic expectations
  • Own annual budget and monthly forecasting process for designated business areas
  • Build efficient and repeatable processes to improve automation of standardized reporting
  • Assist Chief Finance Officer and Corporate Finance by creating materials for board meetings and quarterly business reviews

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, or accounting
  • 2–5 years of experience in finance or accounting
  • 2+ years of direct financial planning and analysis experience
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and influence business partners
  • Ability to think creatively
  • Highly driven and self-motivated, but with the ability to work as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Articulate with excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Eligibility to work in, and travel freely to and from, the United States without sponsorship

Job Overview

The Accounting Manager, Financial Systems, coordinates new technology projects and reviews and updates current processes relating to student accounts using technology such as Salesforce, NetSuite, Student Payment Portal, AvidXchange, Adaptive, Tableau, Certify, and Merchant Banking. This individual liaises between Finance and all other departments regarding new technology initiatives affecting student accounts. Reporting to the Senior Accounting Manager, Campus Operations, this role reviews monthly profit and loss and balance sheets financial statements for several campus locations. This role significantly contributes to the creation, review, and training of staff on all Finance Department policies.

Essential Functions

Financial Systems

  • Serve as primary point person between Finance and all other departments for technology initiatives, improvements, and updates, as related to student accounts in Salesforce and NetSuite
  • Communicate updates and changes regarding student accounts to the finance team
  • Support Operations, Finance, and IT in the review, update, testing, and rollout of the annual PriceBook in Salesforce
  • Serve as contact for launch readiness meetings and updates on new campus implementations
  • Facilitate meetings between IT and appropriate members of Finance during Salesforce changes and upgrades
  • Assist management and IT with planning, implementation, and rollout of a student payment portal
  • Coordinate and communicate with Admissions, Operations, Enrollment Services, and Marketing on updates relating to student accounts and statement of fees

University Financials

  • Work with Finance to drive continuous improvement in the timeliness and accuracy of the month-end close process
  • Apply a detail-oriented review of all balance sheets reconciliations for assigned campus locations
  • Collaborate with finance management to develop training protocols for new and existing team members to follow

Revenue and Corporate Operations

  • Partner with IT to develop efficiencies in reconciling student data between NetSuite and Salesforce
  • Assist in all aspects of the annual external and internal audit(s) and manage special projects to achieve both company and finance team goals
  • Work with finance management to review, develop, and implement internal control policies for the Finance Department

People Management

  • Recruit, develop, and retain team members to ensure productivity and engagement
  • Engage in talent management activities such as goal setting, performance evaluations, stay interviews, development planning, and ongoing feedback to develop team members and achieve organization goals
  • Provide coaching, counseling, and corrective action (when necessary) to team members
  • Foster a culture that reflects Shorelight’s values

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • Strong academic background in accounting and finance, with at least 5 years of previous experience
  • 2+ years of experience managing a team
  • Experience in Salesforce and NetSuite
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Eligible to work and travel in the United States without sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Master’s in business administration
  • Certified Public Accountant
  • Experience with FloQast and AvidXchange
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills

Essential Functions

Commissions & Bonus

  • Review and analyze bonus and commission plans; calculate bonus and commission liabilities
  • Work with Commissions Analyst to partner with teams to gather all student enrollment information across all partner universities
  • Assist in the production and distribution of commission and bonus statements
  • Maintain and analyze system data that is critical for commission functions
  • Proactively identify areas of concern in commissioning process and recommend improvements
  • Process commission and bonus payments and record entries in the accounting system
  • Assist in automation initiatives for commission and bonus processing
  • Reconcile commission payment to revenue recognition schedule

Minimum Qualifications

  • A./B.S. degree
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • 1-2 years of experience in an analytical or a finance-oriented role, preferably commissions related
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and take on new tasks with high level of difficulty
  • Customer service focused; strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to take ownership of projects and drive them through completion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of Netsuite and Salesforce.com
