Job Overview 

The Adjunct English as a Foreign Language (EFL) Instructor teaches pre-university, undergraduate, or graduate level Academic English through listening, speaking, reading, writing, and grammar lessons on an interactive, synchronous online platform. This role combines English Language Teaching with academic English instruction and acculturation. The Adjunct EFL Instructor adapts the curriculum as needed to reflect best practices in online EFL instruction and will be teaching group sessions in a communicative approach to English Language Teaching. 

Essential Functions 

Teaching 

  • Prepare and deliver up to 22 hours of online instruction per week 
  • Work in a team environment with other instructors and the American Collegiate team to select and prepare appropriate teaching and learning materials (including e-textbooks, online materials, and self-created materials) 
  • Develop and follow relevant and appropriate lesson plans with clear objectives that align with specified student learning outcomes and overall course format 
  • Facilitate effective online interactions that support English proficiency development 
  • Utilize the full range of AC Live technological capabilities to support effective teaching strategies that meet the individual needs of students 
  • Provide oral and written feedback to students in a timely manner 
  • Assess students and provide formative and summative evaluations that measure student progress in attaining student learning outcomes 
  • Provide out-of-class academic support for students as needed 
  • Substitute-teach for other colleagues as needed 

Administrative 

  • Carry out teaching-related administrative tasks, such as preparing students’ academic progress reports, recording weekly grades, and monitoring attendance 
  • Participate in and contribute to virtual orientation sessions 
  • Participate in staff development and professional training as required 
  • Attend program meetings as required 
  • Actively participate in regular meetings to share effective methods and assess program success with colleagues 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Master’s degree in TESOL or closely related field, such as applied linguistics 
  • Two (2) years of related experience, including one (1) year in an academic EFL/ESL program 
  • Excellent written and oral English ability 
  • Demonstrated professionalism, adaptability, and reliability 
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills 
  • Proven ability to clearly deliver lessons using communicative-based instruction 
  • Access to reliable internet connection 
  • Eligibility to work in and travel freely from the United States without sponsorship 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Demonstrable knowledge of applied linguistics, second language acquisition, language-teaching methodologies, assessment, and curriculum/lesson planning; TEFL certifications (CELTA, DELTA, Bridge, or Oxford) 
  • Expertise in EFL instruction 
  • Experience teaching ESL or EFL online 
  • Experience adapting instruction to an online format 
  • Overseas experience teaching in multicultural/multilingual classrooms 
  • Competence in a foreign language
