Job Overview

The Business Analyst is an integral role on Product and Engineering teams, working closely with business stakeholders to perform detailed requirements analysis on prioritized company initiatives.  He/She/They works in tandem with the Technical Product Owner group as well as with software development, architecture, and operations experts to detail and define business process and user stories. Working as part of the Product Requirements Team, the Business Analyst defines problems and scope through detailed business analysis to accelerate the technical design phase of upcoming projects and initiatives.  This role reports to the Product Manager within the Product Requirements Team. 

 

The Business Analyst has excellent analytical and conceptual thinking skills, manages time efficiently, and can prioritize tasks and control scope. He/She/They is a problem solver with outstanding oral and written communication skills and a proven ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of executives, managers, and subject-matter experts.  The Business Analyst is comfortable multitasking, has the ability to adjust quickly to shifting priorities and deadlines, and has the ability to lead without formal authority.

 

Essential Functions

Process Analysis and Documentation

  • Create and maintain documentation of process and technical materials that are appropriate and meaningful for the defined audience using standard toolsets
  • Produce data repositories and reports including flow diagrams, process documents, and user stories
  • Evaluate current and future business processes and the anticipation of requirements required for upcoming projects that have been prioritized and require technical solutions
  • Produce business and technology intelligence by applying knowledge of requirements definition and project coordination as it relates to the defined technical roadmap initiatives and ongoing agile sprints
  • Draft features and user stories with acceptance criteria to seed product backlog and begin the prioritization process
  • Maintain a strong understanding of Shorelight’s technical systems to identify problems, propose solutions through collaboration with technical teams, and work across business functions to clarify gaps in current systems
  • Support mitigating impediments impacting successful team completion of release/sprint goals

 

Business Partnering

  • Develop expertise and empathy for customers and learners to ensure a high quality user experience
  • Document and communicate technology roadmap milestones to the product requirements and agile delivery teams
  • Develop rapport and trust with business owners, key stakeholders, and a highly technical development team to collaborate and ensure product alignment

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2+ years’ experience in a business analyst role (or similar) in an agile software development environment, including a strong working knowledge of methodology, user stories, and iterative development

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in technology or a business-related field
  • Business Analyst certification (e.g., CBDA, CFLBA, CPRE, PBA, etc)

Job Overview

Essential Functions

Business Systems and Software Support

  • Provide real-time support and system administration for learning management, mobile student information applications, and instructional technology platforms deployed globally
  • Assist developers in the identification and resolution of application or process related defects or issues ensure incidents and development requests are appropriately logged
  • Become the Shorelight expert on assigned applications, both functionally and technically, to support bug fixes, integrations, upgrades, and content creation
  • Perform incident troubleshooting, analysis, and diagnosis based on symptoms, existing knowledge base, review of code, technical process flow, inputs, etc. of assigned applications
  • Develop and facilitate continuous monitoring of core systems, processes, and integrations

 

Technical and Operational Efficiency

  • Identify opportunities for efficiency and automation
  • Perform Root Cause Analysis, identify, and document solutions
  • Proactively research, resolve and/or escalate any abnormalities to mitigate system issues and/or downtime
  • Create guides to system updates, as needed

 

 Network Administration

  • Maintain enterprise-grade data networks, including VPNs, routers/switches and other physical hardware
  • Working with ISPs to spec and install new internet circuits and related hardware

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of work experience
  • 3+ years of related work experience
  • Experience in SDLC, including system design, implementation, testing, maintenance, and support
  • Experience supporting web, desktop, and mobile applications
  • Deep familiarity with Windows 10/11 and Mac OSX operating systems and a broad suite of cloud based and SAAS applications in a global environment

Essential Functions

Data Warehouse

  • Design, develop, and test data warehouse tables and infrastructure
  • Work closely with the Data Analytics Team to identify new requirements for the data warehouse

 

Data Integration

  • Design, develop, and test data integration processes among business systems and data warehouses in multiple DBMS environments, including cloud-based systems
  • Design, develop, and test system integrations among enterprise front- and back-office applications (ERP, CRM, Financial, Planning, and other systems)
  • Prepare documentation and flow charts of systems, business processes, and databases
  • Lead solutioning and participate in data modeling design sessions
  • Provide guidance to engineers on implementing code changes based on system specifications
  • Analyze problems and propose solutions
  • Lead DBAs and Data Architects to implement database changes
  • Direct, support, and mentor other Data Engineers on the team

Operational Support

  • Assist power users in their understanding of the Enterprise Data Model and usage of the Enterprise Data Warehouse

Minimum Qualifications

           Bachelor’s degree

  • 10+ years of experience in data management and ETL design/development
  • Experience in database development using Amazon Redshift, DB2, SQL Server, and/or Oracle
  • Strong SQL scripting skills, including procedural languages such as PL/SQL and T-SQL
  • Experience with ETL tools such as Informatica, SSIS, and Pentaho PDI
  • Experience in working with large-scale data warehousing and complex transformations
  • Experience in working with dimensional models
  • Experience using a software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodology
  • Knowledge of Stored Procedures/Unix scripting knowledge
  • Knowledge of implementing adequate controls for balancing
  • Must have solid understanding of relational database design
  • Experience with BI and reporting platforms such as Business Objects, Crystal Reports, Tableau, PowerBI, and Cognos
  • Eligible to work and travel in the United States without sponsorship

 

Preferred Qualifications

           Bachelor’s degree in information systems, information technology, or computer science

  • Knowledge of Salesfoce.com data model
  • Experience with Informatica Cloud
